The Amazon jungle, the first half of the 18th century. In a remote Guarani Indian village, father Gabriel conducts his missionary work. Soon he is joined by Captain Rodrigo Mendoza, former slave hunter, who seeks redemption of a fratricide he committed. Influenced by Gabriel's idea to create a utopian Christian enclave for the natives, Mendoza experiences inner transformation. However, the two men's enterprise is soon disrupted by the imperial conflict between the kingdoms of Portugal and Spain, which both try to gain influence over the territory of the mission. A Vatican emissary, Cardinal Altamirano, arrives in the jungle to determine the fate of the Indian community... The action of the show, based on the film Mission starring Jeremy Irons and Robert deNiro, becomes a pretext to analyse the attitudes of those in power in the modern world, in which consumerism extinguishes collective values. Directed with freshness and originality by Bartosz Szydłowski, The Mission Fan Club engages the audience in a theatrical game, transporting them through sophisticated stage design and costumes that bring to mind the aesthetics of cloak and dagger productions.
